Trauma Services
It has been proved time and time again that complicated orthopedic trauma is best handled at dedicated trauma centers. Most hospitals do not have either the equipment or the staff to provide care for severe trauma victims. A Level One trauma center, such as at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, has all the facilities and staff to provide 24/7 emergency treatment of the most complicated trauma, such as car accidents, crushing injuries or falls from heights.
As one of the few orthopedic surgeons at St. Francis Hospital who participates in the Level One trauma center, Dr. Miller is extremely well-qualified to handle all aspects of complicated orthopedic trauma. Dr. Miller performs minimal incision, percutaneous insertion of fixation devices, and arthroscopically assisted fracture fixation. He is one of the few orthopedic surgeons in the area who is trained and routinely uses the Ilizarov external fixation device and operates on pelvic and acetabular fractures. He can also treat the complications of trauma such as deformity, delayed/nonunion and loss of function.
Fortunately, most trauma does not require such heroic measures, but Dr. Miller can apply any or all of these techniques as necessary to deliver the best possible functional and anatomical result possible.
